As with any art endevour, there are an abundance of Plein Air painting supplies to choose from.Among the basics are light weight portable easels, small paint palettes, portable brushes and products to carry water in. Although don't get excited about carrying an easel around outdoors. I I do use a compact system that's great for hiking, trips to the beach or any other trip away from my home studio. I like Art Toolkit products for the ultra thin depth of their palettes and nylon, zippered folios. Easy to hook to a back pack, belt loop or stash in a carry case.
MyArtTool also makes a convenient palette. Although it's not a thin as the palettes designed by Art Toolkit, it opens up to a couple of generous mixing trays. MyArtTool palettes also have a loop to hook to a carry case, and has an agreeable price point if you're just starting out.
As for brushes, I stick with medium price Kolinsky portables. They hold paint well, and if they get mishandled or lost outdoors, replacing them is easy and affordable.
